What is Autosome? (Some of the definitions..quoted)
-A chromosome other than a sex chromosome,
- normally occurring in pairs in somatic cells and singly in gametes
-Autosomes control the inheritance of all the characteristics except the sex-linked ones, which are controlled by the sex chromosomes. Humans have 22 pairs of autosomes and one pair of sex chromosomes
-Autosomes are all the chromosomes other than the X and Y chromosomes
-They are two copies of each autosome (chromosomes 1-22) in both females and males
in humans there are 22 pairs of autosomes
-A chromosome not involved in sex determination
-any chromosome that is not a sex chromosome and that appears as a homologous pair in a somatic cell.
Humans have 22 pairs of autosomes, which transmit all genetic traits and conditions other than those that are sex-linked
What is Sex chromosome? (Some of the definitions...quoted)
-Each person normally has one pair of sex chromosomes in each cell.
-Females have two X chromosomes, whereas males have one X and one Y chromosome.
-Both males and females retain one of their mother's X chromosomes, and females retain their second X chromosome from their father.
-Since the father retains his X chromosome from his mother, a human female has one X chromosome from her paternal grandmother, and one X chromosome from her mother.
-The nuclei of human cells contain 22 autosomes and 2 sex chromosomes.
In females, the sex chromosomes are the 2 X chromosomes.
-Males have one X chromosome and one Y chromosome. The presence of the Y chromosome is decisive for unleashing the developmental program that leads to a baby boy.
