Earthworm~Hydrostatic Skeleton

Amused to see the earthworms moved....
The antagonistic action of a pair of muscles : circular and longitudinal muscles...
The contraction...
The fluid in its body..

Using forceps and magnifying glass...

For once...they really observe how the earthworm moves in reality :))

Hypotonic Isotonic Hipertonic With 4Gastisia

Its all about the movement of water molecules via OSMOSIS.
The movement of water molecules are very much affected by the concentration of the solution.

The terms HYPOTONIC, ISOTONIC and HYPERTONIC are very important in this chapter.

If the students fail to understand the concept of the different condition, they will not be able to explain anything which are related to situations.

The overview of the 3 conditions can be explained by using module.

After teacher explaining the concept, make them discuss in pairs..
Let them discussed, and explained to one another...
Highlighting important keywords...

Give them 10 minutes to do this 'discussion' activity should be more than enough !

Jalan-jalan Cari Cacing

Thinking...thinking...thinking...
Apakah aktiviti di luar bilik darjah yang menarik bagi tajuk 'Locomotion and Support' ?
Why not we explore our school field...our school science garden...our school area.
So..5 Adiodans were quick to prepare the simple apparatus and digged the soil to search for any soil oorganisms focussing on EARTHWORMS....
Why on earth is Earthworms? Because they wanna see how it moves with its HYDROSTATIC skeleton!!

It took about half an hour to get a few eartthworms...
The activity at least made them awake...
Brought back to Bio Lab and put it together in a tray...
Excited observing and identifying their 'catch'
Yeayyyyy...dapat cacing tanah :)
...and observe the contraction of its muscles in movement !

Locomotion and Support In Classroom

There are many interesting activities to start this chapter. I started this Chapter with 5 Helpilians..And I extracted a simple activity from an old book of Suggested Science Activities.

They only required 8 pieces of A4 papers, whatever colour..They cut the skeletons according to the system...and they staple to join all the bones ~ forming a beautiful skeleton !!
They are so happy with their master piece ~ Filza, Dini and Mika ..
While..Deanna, Umairah and Aida were struggling with the skeletons drawn on a white plain T -Shirt.....
It could have been better if more time was given...**Two periods-Lesson !
Bio Class is full with SKELETONS.....celebrating this Chapter !!!
Silmika, Atikah and Elliena..preparing their skeleton !!

Finally I let them hang their products on the Wall.....at least a week or two until the other Chapter begins...

And the large Chart also help !!
Of course the CD ROM...on a Smart Board :)
While 5 Bakerara girls skipped that activity, they are more focussing on identifying all types of vertebra by using Models/ modules/ text book/ Reference Books....as Guidelines.
We have 4 SETS of Human Skeleton in Bio Lab...and that is more than enough to share !
Every year I find that students are amused when learning this Chapter...Some of them would probably have thought of be an OTHORPEDICs or PHYSIOTERAPIST..or any related fields..

*Orthopedics is the study of the musculoskeletal system.
**Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession which sees human movement as central to the health and well-being of individuals.

Lymphatic System in Classroom

Teachers usually find it a bit challenging to teach about Lymphatic System in Bio Classroom..
There is no electronic model to enable students to visualise how the two systems : Blood circulatory system and Lymphatic system, complement each other..

Thus...teacher might need to use CD ROM ~Teaching Course ware supplied by MOE..and student may do a bit of presentation on the formation of interstitial fluid~~~as the sequence of event where it leads to the formation of LYMPH..

5 Adiodans were so engrossed to listen to their friend presentation about the formation of interstitial fluid OR tissue fluid...
and of course , I made them draw the Diagram !!
Iman was repeating what I have explained earlier about the concept of the formation of interstitial fluid..She did very well even after listening to my explanation only ONCE !!
And they started drawing....
Of course Lymphatic system is very much related with Body Defence Mechanism...
I am emphasising on PHAGOCYTOSIS too.....
The Formation of Interstitial Fluid.....and later on...LYMPH...
And The whole System..The Lymphatic vessels...The Thoracic Duct.

Dont forget the function of Lymph NODES too....
