FAQ-Chapter3-Movement of substances

Lets see what are the important content which you should master for Paper 2 SPM :

1. The structure of the plasma membrane~ Label and function. Diagrams!!
2. Fluid Mosaic Model. Why?
3. The role of channel protein (pore protein)and Carrier protein.
4. Passive transport Versus Active transport (Comparing and Explain with examples )
5. Osmosis- In details : The effects of hypotonic, isotonic, hypertonic solutions on both Plant cells and animal cells (should be able to explain and draw changes observed ) Please refer to my previous posting about this topic.

6. Applications in daily life
* gaseous exchange in alveoli and blood cap by simple diffusion - Diagram and Explain (Facts + Explanation )
*Absorption of digested food in villi by both passive and active transport (depending on what type of food !) Diagram and Explain.
*Absorption of water in root hairs by OSMOSIS (Water !!!!)
*ION uptake by root hairs of plant through ACTIVE TRANSPORT.( Ion!!!)

7. Application of OSMOSIS in daily life :
(I will publish a special post about it shortly..)

For this chapters there are a few experiments which have been asked in SPM Paper 3. You should consider them for the next coming SPM too:

It is a designing Experiment Qs (Qs 2 Paper 3)

1. To study the movement of substances across a semi permeable membrane
(use Visking tubing )
2 To investigate the concentration of an external solution which is isotonic to the cell sap of plant cell ( Twice been asked !!)

Happy Revising !
