FAQ-Chapter 6- Nutrition

I'm analysing FAQ for Chapter 6 by focusing on Paper 2.. Let alone Paper 1 because there will be definitely at least 3-4 questions from this chapter which will be asked in SPM examination.

Essay Questions:
1.Balanced diet
-Factors affecting the daily energy requirement of the human body : age, sex, body weight and occupation (Make sure for each factors listed, you have at least TWO sentences to elaborate /explain. )

2. Justify an appropriate diet menu based on nutrient chart for:
-Pregnant mothers
-infants
-children
-teenagers
-athletes
-ppl with specific disease : cardiovascular disease, diabetes,
-the aged
-vegetarians

3. Malnutrition
-effects of deficiency in proteins, vitamins, minerals
-effects of excessive intake : carbo, lipids, vitamins, minerals.
Ways to reduce chance of contracting certain health problems due to diet.
-Describe ways to reduce the effects of : high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis.

4. Analysing man digestive system -
-Organs/glands involved
-digestive enzymes
-substrates and products
-suitable pH for enzyme action

-Discuss the digestion of carbohydrate, proteins, fats
-at organs like mouth, stomach, duodenum, gall bladder, pancrease, liver, ileum, colon .

5. Absorption and Assimilation
-adaptation of the small intestine- LABEL ( Villus Diagram !)
-absorption of amino acids, glucose, fatty acids, glycerols, vitamins and minerals.

-Colon and absoption of water and minerals.
-Describe the transport of nutrients by the circulatory system for assimilation.

-Liver and main functions:
*storage of nutrient
*processing digestion product
*detoxification

6. Explain leaf adaptation to optimise photosynthesis. . (Facts + Explanation) Label leaf

7. factors affecting photosynthesis- graphs

8.Food technology
-tissue culture/ cloning (Chapter 5)
-biological control (Chapter 8)
-genetic engineering

*Diversify food production
* the necessity for food processing.

PAPER 3:

1. Determine the energy value in food samples .
*Remember to manipulate different types of food samples
2. Determine the vitamin C content in various fruit juices.
*Remember DCPIP is DECOLORISED NOT colorless !!
3. Determine the nutrient content in different food samples.

4.Design exp to study the digestion of starch (2009) and proteins in food samples.
