What is Hydrolysis?
-Hydrolysis is a chemical reaction during which one or more water molecules are split into hydrogen and hydroxide ions in the process of a chemical mechanism.
- It is the type of reaction that is used to break down certain polymers,
-Hydrolysis is a chemical process in which a molecule is cleaved into two parts by the addition of a molecule of water
-Hydrolysis is the chemical reaction that involves the breaking up of large molecules by adding water to them ( hydro=water, lysis=break )
Examples:
The breakdown of triglyceride to form glycerol and fatty acids.
The breakdown of polypeptides to form dipeptides
The breakdown of starch to form maltose
What is Condensation?
-A condensation reaction takes place releasing water. This process requires energy--
-Monosaccharides combine to form disaccharides through Condensation.
